Meet the Principal
Faith, Music and Literature are the defining elements of my life
My name is Bob Armentrout and I am the principal of Ta’Amim ministries. Ta'Amim has been part of my life for a very long time! I grew up in a little town called New Holland, Oh and attended the Church of Christ there. I made my first profession of faith when I was 12 years old (1966). After high school, I served in the Navy for eight years; 1973 – 1981 and later served as an officer in the Tennessee State Guard.
I was an active member of several congregations/denominations during that time (depending on where I lived) which gave me broad view and an appreciation of various Christian theologies.
After leaving active duty I turned my attention to education and obtained two bachelor degrees and two master degrees (a Bachelor of Science in accounting; a Bachelor of Public Administration in fiscal management; a Master of Science in Information Technology and an MBA and currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Apologetics at Wesley Biblical Seminary), all of which served me well in my career of accounting and IT work. I’ve been fortunate to work for extended periods with some of the largest companies in the world including the Columbia Gas Distribution Companies, Nissan North America, Gulfstream Aerospace and the University of South Carolina.
Like many, there came a time (about 1983-1989) when I doubted my faith and, eventually, considered myself an agnostic. I felt that I had initially become a “Christian” merely because that was how I was raised. However, by the end of 1989 I concluded that my reasons for doubting Christianity were shallow and not well reasoned and to be intellectually honest with myself, I needed to settle the issue of what I did and did not believe. So, I made a “New Year’s Resolution” and for the entire year of 1990 I reevaluated Christianity and what I did/did not believe and the evidence for/against it - on Sunday, December 9, 1990, I rededicated my life to Christ and have done my best to remain faithful to that commitment since.
I have always loved music and loved to sing but was usually too shy to sing in public unless I was part of a large group such as school or church choirs and bands. During most of my Christian life and especially since rededicating myself, I have been heavily involved in music both as a worship leader, soloist and founding member of a contemporary Christian band called Ta’Amim. As often happens with bands, people move or became disinterested – in other words, “life happens” and in 1996 after my bandmates had moved away I decided to move to Nashville to further my career. Shortly after arriving in Nashville, I became involved with Artists In Christian Testimony and over the next several years I administered a music prison ministry through ACT providing ministry to inmates and discipling other young musicians.
Toward the end of 2020 I decided to move back to Ohio to be closer to family where I am a member of Heritage Christian Church in Washington Court House, Oh. Heritage is a CCCU congregation (Church of Christ in Christian Union) where I serve on our worship team, choir and lead a small group. Heritage is Weslyn in its theology which fits well with me as I am also a current seminary student at Wesley Biblical Seminary, Ridgeland, Mississippi seeking a Master of Arts in Apologetics.
Eventually, God called me to do more musically and return to the type of ministry I engaged in years earlier at skilled nursing, memory care, assisted living and similar facilities and to further that end, I formally associated with ACTInternational.org.
